Soo , we have been together nearly 2 years now. Lena still misses her home in Yevpatoria an awful lot, her friends, the language, etc. Homesickness sucks!

Yes, I can uderstand Lena very well.

Probably will be better for Lena to visit her motherland and stay there for a month.

I think it will help. [wink.gif]

Well Mark

Now she has a baby son and she obviously would like to have her mother's support, like all women with young children.

Don't worry and soon will start getting better and she will feel settled and that her home is in Amsterdam!

Good luck.

Mark,
If at all possible try and organise a short visit for all of you to go and visit Lena's parents.

I am talking from experience of about twenty years ago.
The very short version of that story is that I failed to understand the situation and it ended in tears.

Tomorrow, I will fly again to Evpatoria to join my wife & son who are already there for 1 1/2 months.

My parents and one of my friends will join me this trip, I hope they will have as good a time as I always have.

Markje.

Hello,
I enjoyed your account very much and I congratulate you on your success! I too am planning to meet a lady with whom I have been corresponding In Evpatoria. I know she really enjoys her family and friends there and I am worried about homesickness if I take her away from them. Have you been able to work through the homesickness problems? I do believe the suggestion to send her home for a month every year is a good one if you can accomplish that.
Some questions on your account:
1) Is the early picture on page one looking over the hood of the car the highway into Evpatoria?
2) The picture immediately following the one above appears to be a picture of a statue in Nikolaev (I have been to Nikolaev). Is this correct?
3) How long was the bus ride to Yalta? That sounds like an excellent day trip for a couple to enjoy along with a child (my lady has a 9yr old son)
4) Can you provide the details of your car ride from Odessa? Was it a taxi/limousine service that you contracted over the internet?
5) How many times have you been back to Evpatoria since your marriage?
Cheers, I wish you well.

Hi Mavrick,

Welcome to the board.

My wife finally lost her homesickness, about 5-6 months ago. About 2 months after my son turned 2 years old.

Homesickness is a very serious problem that made me worry about the marriage 2ce at least.

I will answer your questions below:
1) Is the early picture on page one looking over the hood of the car the highway into Evpatoria?
This road is the road from Odessa to Kherson. After that, it goes to RozDolne and from there to Evpatoria.
With google-maps having an accurate roadmap now , it is much easier than when I went.

2) The picture immediately following the one above appears to be a picture of a statue in Nikolaev (I have been to Nikolaev). Is this correct?
It could be, I passed many interesting scenery. At least Odessa, Kherson, Nikolaev, Simeropol , and other major cities.

3) How long was the bus ride to Yalta? That sounds like an excellent day trip for a couple to enjoy along with a child (my lady has a 9yr old son)
The bus ride to Yalta was about 2 hours. You're better off booking a complete tour which will keep you busy the whole day. Lots to see on that road trip and with a good tourguide it will be a pleasure. Selling points are on all the major streets in Evpatoria. (costs about $10-$50 for the both of you, son should be free)

4) Can you provide the details of your car ride from Odessa? Was it a taxi/limousine service that you contracted over the internet?
I used the translator "Stirlitz" who is also a member of this board. I can highly recommend it. He drives a very old (antique) volga which makes the ride all the more fun and relaxing. No kamikaze-actions like the other cabbies :P

5) How many times have you been back to Evpatoria since your marriage?
I try to go every summer vacation, but Crises in Europe does make it more difficult for me.
Usually my wife goes early, and the last week (or 2) from her vacation I join her there and we fly home together.
