I am looking at taking a trek to Rostov, but I'm having some troubles finding any good website for a place to stay.

Prices I have been quoted by one operator is up near 55-65 Euro's. I was planning 2 weeks, and I'd rather seek out what the going rates are.

Can anyone help ?

Can you clarify please:

Is it Rostov Veliky which is located on the shores of Lake Nero in Yaroslavl Oblast, 200 km to the north east of Moscow

or

Rostov-on-Don (Russian: Росто́в-на-Дону́ Rostov-na-Donu, pronounced [rɐˈstov nə dɐˈnu]) the administrative center of Rostov Oblast and the Southern Federal District of Russia, located on the Don River, just 46 km from the Sea of Azov?

:?

Don

I read this message on another board talking about the security boys at the airport in Rostov-on-Don. You may find it interesting:

"As a frequent traveler to this airport and city, I understand the system very well, So a couple of questions for you.

Are you flying in direct to Rostov from outside of Russia or are you entering in from say Moscow? If you are flying from outside of Russia then it is easy just make sure you have as an extra item to your Visa a travel voucher, if you got your Visa and it is a single / double entry Visa you will need this to leave through Rostov on Don airport to avoid the Fine ?
Bribe currently running at 4000 rubles but with the voucher it is no problem.

If you are traveling in to the Airport from within Russia the Entry is no problem, the problem arises when you are leaving, the guys this side seem to be the worst in the game. Several guys I know have been pulled to one side taken to a small room searched and made to pay bribes no matter wether or not they had broken the rules!

It would seem that the customs guys that work this side do not get their fair share of bribe opportunity's so will try it on allways. One Guy who I know very well was taken to this room told to strip so they could search all of his clothes, then he was asked to open his case where they removed the bottle of Vodka he was taking home and some gifts that had been brought for him to give to his family by his Fiancee and her family, all this was carried out whilst his Fiancee was outside demonstrating to these guys that they would be late for the plane, and to what was going on!!!!!

I have heard another guy traveling on his own actually missed his flight!!

As for Registering, if you do not get your hotel to register you then it is easy to get your Wife's family to go to the Post office and fill in the forms for registration and you will be fine, warning do not go to the UFMS in Rostov they will make the whole process last for about 3 hours did this once will never go again!! use the main post office if required only takes 30mins, but as Chris says make sure you just get the maximum you can "

So be careful when you go!

When I was there a couple of years ago I stayed at the Hotel Rostov which was a very nice hote. I was quite happy with it. It wasn't cheap but it wasn't expensive either. I would recommend it.

It will be a direct flight from Frankfurt. I will have to enquire with my travel agent here to see if the voucher is included. Because paying out $148 CAD is not something I'm going to be doing [bat.gif]

What exactly is a travel voucher ?

The lack of information on apartments to rent is quite troublesome :(

I don't know when you are going to visit Russia but the Travel company which provides you with the Invitation, should also provide you with the VOUCHER too.

Here is the Voucher that I get from my company in Moscow!

The blackout places are my personal details.

On the second part is clear and in English my travelling details and which cities I suppose to visit, Ufa and Ekaterinburg.

About accommodation.... have you asked Sparky?

What about the lady(ies) you are visiting. Can't she/they help out?

If you were visiting Ufa I could organise everything for you, apartment, visa registration and also my friendly innexpensive taxi driver Ivan who would get you out of any problems............ [sarcastic_blum.gif]

Don

try these ones:

http://www.kvartirkino.ru/Pages/en_apartments.html

This company looks very good and proffessional and their prices are not bad at all neither their apartments and their locations!

Any how, knowing you, all you need is just a double bed..... :rolf:

Good luck! :D

PS: I will expect a travel report when you comeback......... ;)
