Ryder.. I apologise, too - Welcome to this board..

Добро пожаловать - Welcome.. and very topical for what follows..

In Russia their a re two main types of 'cell/ mobile' call tariff structures - "federal" and "city"

Most folk who don't leave their city / region find it much cheaper to use the "city' flavour..

FACT: if you are calling either flavour - THEY DO NOT pay to receive incoming calls when within a region covered by their tariff.. so if you call a lady and she tells you she is saying for the call - she is either out of her region or 'fibbing' ;)

For Wiz: Here's a pay as you go solution from Beeline that Wifey uses when travelling in in RU.. the Добро пожаловать tariff.. it works in other Regions and she buys it in Moscow - and uses it within Russia.

Using a mobile phone in Russia.

Stay in the region that is allocated by your provider and to receive calls is free.

Move out of your region and you pay internal roaming charges.

Use a Sakhalin Sim card within the region allocated and it is free to receive calls and txt messages.

Use a Sakhalin Sim card in Moscow and you will pay.
Use a Sochi Sim in Moscow and or Sakhalin and you will pay.

This applies to all mobile telephone providers.

The above is fact.
So somebody else confirmed my previous comments……. Mr Moby and Shadow [tonque.gif]

I come to realise that when I first went to Russia and noticed….. Receiving a call from UFA while waiting to get through immigration in Moscow….. all my credit of 100 Rubbles had gone! [surprised.gif]

On arrival in Ufa… made a small investigation in a mobile shop near the house….. I was explained the truth by an honest assistant…..
so I changed my SIM card…….

Later I had to replace my SIM card again for other reasons. I was receiving lots of messages and nasty calls from my previous Russian encounter and wanted peace of mind! [sad.gif] [angry.gif]

Now my Sim card is for Ufa region and do not use it in Moscow….. only on emergencies.

Just for your information I always have my UK mobile open……. But never answer any calls or texts. When I receive one I use my Russian mobile to reply….. but later in the UK…. Always find on my bill…. Roaming charges! [angry.gif]

Why don't you give us more details about that, instead of 1 liners comments?

Sparky

with your 100th call you will become an “Old Timer”…… or you want me to change the Rank to anything else……like “Experienced” or anything else?

Suggestions are welcome. [biggrin.gif]

BTW How all of you find now the PREVIEW Panel?

Does it help you to know how you message will appear on the board after Submit?

I should have clarified my answer ... you CAN be charged for roaming - russia has some packages that treat being in a different region as roaming .You're were on the wrong package, Wiz... !!! ;) Read on, and learn !

Hi Wiz

it's VERY simple.. in msg 13 you suggest I'm not being constructive - and posting sarcastic one-liners - yet AFTER you had tidied up my earlier post - where I have been constructive- and posted a nice explanation ends up BEFORE your 'moan' ( msg 11) [rolf.gif]

As ever, you were too quick to jump in... and it makes you look....

RUDE AGAIN Mmoby?

Robert called me on my Beeline, we talked sometimes for hours and I was not charged any money. But he called me using uniontelecard. I still use their services to call my friends and relatives in Russia on their cell phones.
