Your views about religious and other inflammatory subjects

I am sure you have seen the Topic "We need to protect our freedoms", which refers to the Radical elements of Islam and the threat they present to our own freedoms, in the Authors view!

On this board we are free to discuss any subject in connection "with anything "Russian" but as you are aware discussion about Religious subjects always end up in huge arguments, therefore before we let the above mentioned topic to continue it is better to solicit every menber's view on the matter.

The topic has been locked and here I would ask everybody to express his opinion and cast a vote regarding discussion of Religious or similar type of subjects.

As the author of the post I have excluded myself from the vote.

I will further add that it was my decision to exclude myself from the vote.

Of course it would not take a "rocket scientist" to decipher how I would have voted but that is immaterial.

Raffi, I think that you are wrong to refrain from voting.....even the US president gets to vote, and I do not think that he will vote for his opposition...
This site discusses many more things than just Russia, take a real look and you will find many different threads not related to Russia.....
So why not discuss religeon, and any terrorist threats via religeon.....

Sorry but I disagree with your decision and you should vote like everybody else.

I have not voted yet but I will vote NO for the simple reason that I never liked talking about any religious subject.

Religious discussions, debates and also religious fanatics do not interest me.

I voted NO.

I'm sure those interested in such discussions can find other, more appropriate boards to conduct them so this particular board can be a calm, soothing oasis where we talk about hot chicks with sexy accents.

I voted yes. I guess there are lines that can be crossed. Personally, there are some issues involving religion as it relates to RW, the history and culture of Russia, and RW's attitudes about religion that to me are quite appropriate for this forum.

I would have little interest in reading a thread about how I would never get to heaven if I don't repent and seek salvation. If there is ever a post about that I am free to not read it. As far as discussions about the Muslim religion being evil, if it is a funny post I can laugh at it. If it is serious but idiotic I can bypass it. If I saw posts religion that were actually creating bickering and fighting then I might be more opposed.

Personally I don't have a problem with it one way or the other. If it does create problems then I will change my view.

It seems that I have achieved a miracle. [rolf.gif]
“59dotru” and “wiz” in agreement, WOW, something that I never thought that I would see (you both know what I am talking about).

Considering the views about my voting, my decision as to whether to vote or not has gone back to the debating chamber.
I will add my new capabilities to the debate. :D

OK Time to go [hidingwall.gif]

I have to admit that my fingers are itching to point out the obvious (at least as I see it) and without going too far I will just point out the title of the original thread and I will ask “how appropriate is the title”.

I will just add one more point.
"I disagree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it"?
Attributed to Voltaire

But probably written by Evelyn Beatrice Hall, as an illustration of Voltaire's beliefs in her biography on him.

Another possible source for the quote was proposed by Norbert Guterman, editor of "A Book of French Quotations," who noted a letter to M. le Riche (February 6, 1770) in which Voltaire is quoted as saying: "Monsieur l'abbé, I detest what you write, but I would give my life to make it possible for you to continue to write" ("Monsieur l'abbé, je déteste ce que vous écrivez, mais je donnerai ma vie pour que vous puissiez continuer à écrire"). This remark, however, does not appear in the letter.

I voted NO. [hi.gif]

Religious discussions combined with extreme fanaticism have the potential to create problems for the board, therefore in my view it's better to avoid such time-bombs. As an infrequent participant I would not like to see the board embroiled in such controversies.

After all, talking about Russian women (our common interest) and many other subjects it's more interesting, as other people indicated, than trying to reason with a fanatic. Leave it to the politicians to deal with it!

At the end of the day it's down to wiz to decide, what it is best for the board and I started this poll, after consultation with him, because I did not wanted Rasboinik or anybody else to think that I am exercising censorship!

That's my Image
