Carbombs and snipers in Norway

The parliament there has been bombed and a sniper dressed as a policeman is shooting kids attending a "political youth movement".

And whats even worse, some islamic-fundamentalists are claiming to be responsible as revenge for republishing the danish cartoons.

I could not agree more.

What is even worse is that some religious nutcases Image are much, much worse than others Image there are certain groups that are far more likely to emerge in massive numbers in order to burn the streets, overturn cars, loot, riot, threaten and murder people over a perceived insult to their religion.

It will not take a genius to guess with which religion those groups affiliate themselves.

Twin terror attacks shock Norway

Norway has been hit by twin attacks - a massive bomb blast in the capital and a shooting attack on young people at a governing Labour Party youth camp.

At least seven people were killed in the bombing, which inflicted huge damage on government buildings in Oslo city centre.

Unconfirmed reports say four more died at the camp, on an island outside Oslo.

PM Jens Stoltenberg, whose Oslo offices were among those damaged, described the situation as "very serious".

Norwegian media said at least four people on the island of Utoeya were killed when a man opened fire indiscriminately.

Police said the suspected gunman had been arrested, TV2 reported.

No group has said it carried out the attacks but police say they believe them to be linked.

Hours after the bomb struck Oslo, officials said some people were still inside the damaged buildings, some of which were on fire.

Analysis

Gordon Corera
Security correspondent, BBC News

Police are saying that they believe the car bomb and the shooting are linked and they are thought to have a suspect in custody from Utoeya. That means they should be getting a clearer idea of who was behind this attack.

An al-Qaeda linked group is still a strong possibility, based on opposition to the role of Norwegian forces or issues linked to the publication of cartoons of the prophet. There were arrests last year in Norway linked to an international terrorist plot.

However, at this stage other possibilities, including domestic extremists, cannot be ruled out.

Constructing a large car bomb requires a degree of sophistication and the crucial factor for the police will be establishing how many people are behind this attack, whether any are still at large and to whom they might connected.

Scores killed in Norway attack

Man Held After 91 Killed In Norway Attacks

Anders Behring Breivik, the 32-year-old suspect in Friday's attacks in Norway, held right-wing views, say police.

Police chief Sveinung Sponheim said his internet postings "suggest that he has some political traits directed toward the right, and anti-Muslim views".

"But whether that was a motivation for the actual act remains to be seen," he told Norwegian broadcaster NRK.

Little is currently known about him apart from what has appeared on social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter - and these entries appear to have been set up just days ago.

On the Facebook page attributed to him, he describes himself as a Christian and a conservative. The Facebook page is no longer available but it also listed interests such as body-building and freemasonry.

The gunman was described by witnesses who saw him on Utoeya island as tall and blond - and dressed in a police uniform. The image of him posted on Facebook depict a blond, blue-eyed man.

The Norwegian newspaper Verdens Gang quoted a friend as saying that the suspect turned to right-wing extremism when in his late 20s. The paper also said that he participated in online forums expressing strong nationalistic views.

Bomb ingredient

Mr Breivik is thought to have studied at the Oslo Commerce School and his work is listed as Breivik Geofarm, a company Norwegian media is describing as a farming sole proprietorship.

The company was set up to cultivate vegetables, melons, roots and tubers, Norway's TV2 says, and speculation in local media is rife that through such a link he may have had access to fertiliser, an ingredient used in bomb-making.

A Twitter account attributed to the suspect has also emerged but it only has one post, which is a quote from philosopher John Stuart Mill: "One person with a belief is equal to the force of 100,000 who have only interests."

As with his Facebook page, the tweet was posted on 17 July.

It reveals very little about the man except an interest in libertarianism and a clear belief in the power of the individual.

Norway Suspect 'Confesses To Twin Attacks'

More details are emerging about the man accused of carrying out the attacks in Norway as his lawyer says he has admitted responsibility.

A 1,500 page document has appeared on the internet which is believed to be written by 32-year-old Anders Behring Breivik.

It describes his mindset and preparations in the 95 days before the attack and claims he has been planning the acts since 2009.

At least 92 people were killed in his shooting spree on Utoya island and bomb blast in central Oslo .

Police say four or five people are still missing after the youth camp massacre and they fear the final death toll could reach 98.

The gunman's document reveals his dislike for what he sees as a growing influence of muslims in Europe.

It reads: Wednesday May 4 - Day 3: Finished creating the metal skeletons for the blast devices and completing other practical issues relating to gear and equipment.

Saturday June 11 - Day 41 I prayed for the first time in a very long time today. I explained to God that unless he wanted the Marxist-Islamic alliance and certain Islamic Takeover of Europe...he must ensure that the warriors fighting for the preservation of European Christendom prevail.

Friday July 22 - Day 82: Initiate blasting sequences at pre-determined sites... have enough material for 20 blasts... I believe this will be my last entry. It is now Friday July 22nd 12.51pm.

He says that being arrested was part of his plan - he wants notoriety.

Defence lawyer Geir Lippestad told Norway's NRK television channel that Breivik had "admitted responsibility" and "confessed to the factual circumstances".

So this time it was not Islamic terrorists that perpetuated the atrocity but that it was a nutcase that in a warped way thought that by murdering innocents he would prevent the spread of Islam in Europe.

God save us from such warped nutcase logic.
