Hi folks! Just a follow up post to let you know the state of affairs at present (it may all change by morning, of course!).

I filled out Real Russia application on Thursday 12th August, sent it off, and my application went into the Embassy the next day (Friday). I was given a provisional collection date of 20th August, so I am waiting to find out what will happen. I have my fingers crossed!

So far, no word. I'm hoping no news is good news!

Thank you for all your advice and support everyone! It does help to have someone to talk to!

I'll keep you all appraised of the situation no matter how it turns out.

Thanks again...

My fingers are crossed, my eyes are crossed even my ears are crossed.

I hope that you get your visa and that you sample some of the delights of Russia (in Russia  [wink.gif] )

Where will you be staying in Moscow, or to ask the question differently does your G/F live in Moscow?

If you need a recommendation for a hotel I can give you a recommendation for a nice OK not very cheap (but you will find that nothing in Moscow is cheap) hotel in the centre of Moscow.

If you elect to take the Glasgow - Amsterdam (Schiphol) - Moscow route then.......
another hint for gifts (at least that is what I do) a nice bottle of perfume for the missus and a set of "samplers" you can get them in the duty-free in Schiphol
An example

The samplers are given to the missus with the statement "If you want to, then you can give your friends a small present from me".

She will, and you have just acquired some real allies.

I am thinking positive and looking forward to reading you next post.

Thank you Hanna! And thank you everyone for your help and support over this!

I just received an email from Real Russia :

Your passport and visa were collected from the Consulate on 20 August 2010.
Your passport and visa were sent on 20 August 2010 by Royal Mail Special Delivery guaranteed for 1pm with insurance to your home address.

I guess I'm going to Russia!!!! [happy.gif] :D [biggrin.gif] [clap2.gif] [drinks.gif]

I think a gift for Real Russia is in order too! I am so happy!!

Again, thank you everyone!

Now, Expedia, where did I put your bookmark.....? [biggrin.gif]

Well done Scotty [drinks.gif]

Just make sure that when you arive your first priority it to get that visa registered, technically you have 72 hours from landing but don't leave it until the 3rd day, do it the 1st day in case of problems, If you are in a Hotel they can/Should do it for you.

If you need a flight consider BMI or Swiss Air, they have some of the cheapest flights to Moscow and you can change your flight for £50 if needed, most airlines will not change or refund anything if you have a hiccup in your plans.

Also look on airline company websites and not just tour agent sites such as Expedia, Ebookers etc, because Tour agents do not show all flights available, and also a good high street travel agent can find seats and combinations which are not available online to Public.

Good luck and have a great trip.

Congratulations and hope you have a good time there.

Don't forget to keep notes and then write about your impressions and experiences in Russia.

Reading the travel reports of other people is very interesting!

Good luck!
