Hi All

Can anyone recommend an online A1 English language coarse for a Russian so that they can learn the basics towards passing the English language test for a Settlement visa , has anyone any experience of the new test since 2015 and the procedure in Russia to take the exam , seems difficult to find any specific info on our governments website other than you need to pass a test before getting the visa !!

thanks in advance, Julian

Hi Julian

My husband asked me to search and check to find information about getting a visa for your wife, now that I am in Russia.

I found these sites in Russian that may help you.

Morning Julian

I hope everything is fine and I see that you probably changed plan....

Am I to understand that St. Peters is not the new place and you will still remain in the UK and that is why Tatiana want to apply for settlement visa?

Do you communicate in English or you have become an expert in Russian language after so many trips and time over there?

Small advice: When Tatiana arrive here, and wants to watch TV, impose this rule...whatch any program you want in English, News and other programs, avoid American programs so she can be used and learn only the English accent....and avoid her watching Russian TV. Maybe Russia Today that is in English with British presenters.

Buy her a grammar book and be sure after a few months she will be speaking very good English.

Hanna after a year, she passed the stage where she was thinking Russian and translated in English..... and now is a motor mouth....... [wink.gif] [biggrin.gif]

Reason that I say this is because once they are very good or fluent in English... their self confidence is increasing and it's easier to get a job and makes life much easier.

Personally I refused to have Russian friends around and told her to make friends with English women, which she did...... and life it's easier.

Good luck

Hi WIZ

Well I'm quite open and keen to live in SpB but work and money would be the issue for me there unless I kept jetting back to Europe, but Tatiana wants to try living here first, so we will try to obtain a visa and see how things go , we will hopefully have an apartment in St Peters so to have a base to return too if needed.

My Russian has improved a lot and we communicate with a strange mix of both languages , it's not ideal as neither of us are fluent in the others tongue , but in time I hope we will improve greatly , I have every confidence her English will improve as you say , it's a far easier language than Russian and she has a better memory than me .

Will keep you posted how things turn out , plan to start the application process in the new year .

Regards Julian
